Organic lawns require maintenance like all lawns and there are several types of maintenance schedules that can be followed. Yearly maintenance of thatching, fertilizing, and aerating is generally the same as a nonorganic lawn except the materials used. Weekly maintenance such as watering, weeding and mowing are only slightly different. By changing the methods of watering you can encourage the grass roots to grow deep in search of water and nutrients. Mowing high allows the grass to grow thick in order to keep the soil and roots shaded, keep weed seeds from contacting the soil and out compete any seeds that may germinate.
