Stabilization

Vegetative stabilization is the best defense against erosion and sediment laden runoff. MCS Inc. uses a product called EcoBlanket® to stabilize exposed soil with a strong vegetative cover. An EcoBlanket® consists of a layer of compost with grass seed and Microblend®, a natural tackifying agent that aids in the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi, which is applied evenly to the desired thickness across the entire exposed area. An EcoBlanket® will cover the entire surface of the exposed soil immediately and protect it from erosive forces such as rain, wind and also slow sheet flow. With proper irrigation and temperatures above 68̊ we will have germination in four to six days and 80% coverage in two weeks or less.

There are several advantages to the use of an EcoBlanket® on your site. The first advantage is the combination of several steps into one easy application by using our Express Blower® truck which allows us to interject the seed and Microblend® evenly throughout the compost mixture. The distribution of seed throughout the mixture is what gives us quick germination times and sustained growth.

Secondly the compost acts as insulation to provide the grass seed with the ideal temperature for germination as well as retaining more moisture than the subsoil would normally be able to hold. The compost also provides high levels of organic nutrients to sustain the growth of grass for several years. This sustained access to nutrients allows the grass to grow thick and healthy thereby protecting your soil from erosive forces. There are several types of beneficial bacteria and fungi that live in the compost. These microorganisms feed on hydrocarbons and degrade them naturally. There are several different types of hydrocarbons that are found on typical construction sites and the EcoBlanket® has the capabilities to trap and degrade them so that they do not enter our waterways.

The third advantage to using an EcoBlanket® is the Microblend®. Microblend® stabilizes the EcoBlanket® and binds it to the soil particles beneath the EcoBlanket®. The Microblend® also provides nutrients for the beneficial microorganisms that live in the compost and naturally degrade hydrocarbons. Certain fungi live within the compost and enter into a symbiotic relationship with the grass by growing throughout the rooting system. This fungus increases the nutrient and water absorption capabilities of the grass and aids in its ability to withstand drought conditions and resist common diseases. As a tackifying agent Microblend® is rated for slopes of up to 5:1. The ability to keep the EcoBlanket® in place while it is germinating and growing gives our product a clear advantage over traditional hydroseeding methods. There is no need to install any sort of netting or staples as in the case a rolled erosion control blanket. When the EcoBlanket® is fully grown it will be able to withstand any amount of flow that a traditional erosion control mat would be able to handle.

EcoBlanket® is a cost effective, quick method of stabilizing exposed soil on any construction site.

Wildflowers

MCS Inc. can help HOAs, municipalities and local governments save money on mowing costs and wages. By using our wildflower applications on the sides of sub-division retention basins, highways or in municipally owned fields you can reduce the frequency of mowing while making the area look far more attractive. By reducing the frequency of mowing you will be saving money on equipment, fuel and labor costs. Your mowing schedule can change from several mowing's per season to two, one mow in the beginning of spring and one mow in the end of autumn. Our process is simple and cost effective. There is no need to strip away any existing vegetation, import topsoil, grade and apply straw and tack. Our Express Blower® truck allows us to complete the entire process in one step. All we need is the existing vegetation to be cut as low as possible. Seed mixes are available to fit all types of conditions and many native species are also available. The benefits of wildflower applications are increased when these native species are used however there are many varieties of wildflower seed mixes to suit any taste.
